A Review Of Anuj Bhutani’s Collection For Lakmė Fashion Week, Summer Resort 2017 & Ways To Personalize Runway Fashion.
It’s almost enthralling to witness, how with every passing day there is a growing urge to revive the loom fabrics, among the Indian designers of the recent times. The aura of the same is refreshing, not only because the designers are coming up with an array of experimentation using these fabrics (blending ‘traditional’ with ‘contemporary’ and creating a complete nouveau look out of it), but also because they are conveying a long forgotten message to the Indians, suffering from the occidental hangover; the message of the sense of ‘belongingness’, the sense of subtle pride, in adorning these fabrics!
Speaking of revival of the ‘root’ fabrics, one cannot overlook designer Anuj Bhutani’s collection at the Lakmė Fashion Week Summer Resort 2017, which astounded the audience completely. Anuj’s collection this season, seemed to explore the nuances of ‘unceasing’ fashion; the kind of fashion that is viable and sustainable. His entire creation was an amalgamation of the very rooted traditional Indian fabrics like khadi, cotton and jute. His interpretation behind using these traditional fabrics, contributed an inexplicable modern panache and sophistication to the collection. The creation was marked by the spirit of minimalism and by clean, defining cuts. The sophisticated subtlety, light earthy tones, uncomplicated tailoring and most obviously the choice of fabric for this collection, not only echo the spirit of our nation, but are also the perfect for everyday wear in the Indian summers, lurking just around the corner.
However, no matter how alluring it seems, experimental designer wear, as portrayed on the fashion runway, at times runs the risks of being too unique, difficult to be carried off as casual, everyday wear. Keeping this in mind, below are three statement attires from Anuj’s LFW Summer Resort collection 2017 and three suggestions of personalizing those runway attires.

1) Easy Breezy, Never Woozy – Made out of jute mesh, this dress by Anuj is an absolute stunner. 2) Brag about the Bag – This splendid khadi top and palazzo in beige by Anuj this season seems to be his translation of the traditional Indian kurta- pajama. So when your attire is so elegant and pleasant, perfect to combat the Indian summers fashionably, discard the idea of adding any more layer of clothing to the look. Sometimes, the trick to break the monotony of a look (if you feel it is monotonous, at all) is to accessorize it right. So, if you are wearing a light mono-coloured garment, as this one by Anuj, try carrying a very bright coloured sling, bucket or tote bags to break the lull.
