No matter how you slice it, first dates are typically preceded by a lot of anxiety, at least a little bit of panic, and a whole bunch of jitters. Before leaving, you second-guess everything, including the outfit you chose after frantically researching “what to wear on a first date” online all day. Stress sets in and causes you to question everything.
You should put your clothing last on your list of stressors when you’re experiencing first-date jitters, so pay attention. When it comes to your attire, first dates are not the time to experiment; instead, you should wear something you are confident in and that makes you feel good about yourself. We are here to help you determine what that is.
Stop frantically texting your group chat and leave the outfit planning to us instead, whether you have plans to go out for a daytime coffee date or have reservations at the hip, new restaurant in town.
Daytime Coffee Date
Compared to a dinner or drinks date, a date during the day raises a little bit more questions, but it should still be treated as being much less complicated.
The focus here is on refined fundamentals. A cute shirt, a pair of pants, and loafers exude the perfect amount of carefree effortlessness while also being incredibly flattering. Bring a layer to throw on top if you tend to get cold so that you aren’t more focused on making a good impression on your date than worrying about your temperature.
Casual Dinner Date
Our experience has shown that a casual dinner date can be trickier to pull off than one that leans fancier, primarily due to the anxiety associated with looking overdressed.
Choosing a casual dress is the simplest and best option if you want to keep things as easy as possible. You’ll feel like you’re ready for a date and that the occasion is a little special, but you won’t come across as overly effortful. What’s best? Your pre-date anxiety will be kept to a minimum because it’s a one-and-done look.
Post-Work Drinks Date
We humbly believe that one of the best types of dates you can go on is a post-office drinks date. You’re already out and about, and if you’re anything like us, you’ve spent the entire day discussing every scenario that could possibly arise during the date with your coworkers, so it immediately feels less stressful.
It is expected that you will arrive in business-casual attire given that you are directly from the office.
In order to perfectly capture “working woman heads on date,” we prefer to wear a stunning kurta, a gorgeous stole, pants, and a pair of jutties.
Elevated Dinner Date
A romantic dinner out is the most traditional type of date. A dress is the best option because it will save you the trouble of figuring out what to wear for pants and a top.
A midi-length dress is a great choice for a nice restaurant to make it a little more sophisticated. Finding a spot you feel comfortable in is a great go-to to turn to whenever the jitters about a nice date appear. It’s simple to make work for a wide variety of settings.
